The Serious Geniuses – You Can Steal The Riffs, But You Can’t Steal The Talent

From the opening riff of “Tour Ture”, it’s obvious that these guys still think its the 90s. Picture the scenario: some best friends graduate high school with shitty grades and a so-so experience. They spend a few years at shitty jobs, maybe do the whole college thing but get frustrated with all the ass-holes they grew up with, forming bands and touring, and still un-happy. So they start their own band to bring back the feel-good factor. And while the genre of music they play is all but dead, they are not beating the horse. If anything, they are bringing it back to life and making it pogo, like, a lot. I popped the CD in and immediately felt the urge to get up and dance with my roommate. But anyway, these guys take the precision awesomeness, and battling riffs of Cap’n Jazz, and still have enough of that Hot Rod Circuit flair to make a few pairs of panties fall. The lyrics are actually good, but still remain catchy. An honest band with an awesome album, I could not recommend this any higher. Best listened to while driving a little over the speed limit, with a car packed full of friends and the windows down. And the music loud. Real loud.
